Last year, the long-running Web news show What’s Trending helped orchestrate a variety-show-esque fundraiser to help kids affected by Hurricane Sandy. Next week, the Tube-A-Thon returns, bringing together top YouTubers and Hollywood talent in an effort to raise money for Covenant House, a charity that aids homeless children.
In conjunction with the Ford's Fiesta Movement, the show, hosted by the popular Web personality Shira Lazar, will stream live from YouTube Space L.A. on Dec. 12., from 6 to 8 p.m. PST. Prominent YouTubers ranging from Shay Carl to Freddie Wong to Rooster Teeth to Daily Grace to Vine star Brittany Furlan will star in various comedic, musical and other performances—all while urging viewers to contribute cash to the Covenant House cause.
During the show, for every tweet that includes the hashtags #Tubeathon or #FiestaMovement, What’s Trending and Fiesta Movement will donate $1 to Covenant House. Last year, the event was able to push the Tubeathon to the No. 3 position on Twitter's top trending terms ranker.
